At St Helens, before 5000 spectators. Southport had only 10 men in the first half, but the game was even, Lee scoring for the Recs and Wolstenholme equalising for Southport. Bell failed misrerably to score from a penalty kick. In the second half, St Helens had the best of the matters, Lee heading the leather into the net, and Crompton taking a pass from Lee for the third.
