Liverpool Mercury 15/04/1893
Some delay was caused by the non-arrival of the referee, but eventually it was agreed by both parties for a local man to officiate. At the end of the first portion of the game honours were even. The second half was hotly contested, Southport holding more than their own. The game eneded in a draw of 1 goal each.
Cricket and Football Field: April 22, 1893
The game was delayed some 40 minutes in consequence of the non-arrival of the League referee, but ultimately it was agreed upon by both parties concerned, that Mr. R.W.T. Hatch, a local gentleman, should act in that capacity. The match was both interesting and exciting, the Sandboys having quite as much of the play as their opponents. The result was entirely satisfactory to the Central, but somewhat disappointing to Liverpool, whose chance of the championship is a little remote, for if Southport beat Blackpool to-day, and Bury do likewise with their opponents, it is almost certain that the ‘Shakers’ will once more head the League with their goal average.
