Solihull Moors 1 v 1 Southport

KEVIN LEE signed off before his three match ban with a goal to salvage a point for Southport this afternoon.

Port dominated the second half of this game but could only find a way through the resolute Moors’ defence with Lee’s 75th minute goal from Matty McGinn’s corner.

The Sandgrounders will have left Damson Park bitterly disappointed having gifted Solihull an early goal and then failed to profit on their second period pressure.

Once again Liam Watson’s showed away day resolve to gain a point, much in the same vain as draws at Northwich and Alfreton this season, but the result will come as little comfort as it proved an opportunity missed to go top of the Blue Square North table.

The fine lines which exist between success and failure in football were poignantly highlighted in the first half this afternoon.

Southport striker Steve Daly was sent through on goal by Alan Moogan’s clever flick but shot straight at Moors keeper Danny Crane.

Minutes later, Port would suffer the ultimate punishment for their profligacy when Craig Mills fired a well struck free-kick at the Sandgrounders’ goal only for goalkeeper Tony McMillan to misjudge the flight and flap at the strike, helping it into the net.

Port had started confidently, with Daly and Powell at the heart, but the openin goal gave Solihull a noticeable lift and it would be the home side who would created the clearer opportunities in the remainder of the half.

Mills was proving a thorn in Port’s side and on more than one occassion was aforded a run on goal down the Yellow’s left flank. Luckily he failed to hit the target.

Port continued to look the more accomplished side but without any chances of note, the lead was Solihull’s at the break.
