STRIKE pairing Ciaran Kilheeney and Chirs Simm bagged the goals which took Southport to a second consecutive win in the Blue Sqaure North.
Port put in a dominant performance and denied the home side many clear opportunities on an away day to remember.
In contrast with the weekend, Southport made an ideal start to the match when after three minutes Chris Simm fired them ahead.
The summer recruit latched onto Alan Moogan’s long ball, profited from a fortunate ricochet that forced goalkeeper Mark Bell to be stranded and slotted in past the defender from the edge of the area.
His first goal for the club provided Port with a platform in which to build a sterling first half performance, assured at the back and quick and neat through the middle Port were surpassing the quality shown on Saturday against Gloucester.
Though that is not to say hosts Blyth were a by-stander in an open 45 minutes at Croft Park, Adrian Webster would force Tony McMillan into a full stretch save before Chris McCabe narrowly missed with a bullet header.
Headed goals were the name of the game on Saturday for Port, bagging two of them, they should have made it three for the season just before half-time but Michael Powell spooned a glorious chance.
Set up by the lively Simm with a sublime lobbed pass, the Yellows’ vice-captain headed over the bar with the goal gaping.
Ashley Winn would also fire over from a similar distance earlier in the period after fine work by the highly confident Ciaran Kilheeney on the left.
The second half followed a much similar pattern to the first as Blyth found a solid wall of defence everytime they approached the Sandgrounders’ backline whereas at the other end of the pitch Port looked menacing on the break.
This was never more evident than on the hour mark when Port grabbed their second goal, Adam Flynn stole the ball from a a Blyth forward, looked up and found Kilheeney 40 yards up field, the hitman finished clinically.
Spartans bravely went in search of a way back into the game but their efforts proved futile.
