JONNY ON THE SPOT TO END LINNETS’ POOR RUN

STRIKER Jonny Margetts scored his first goal for almost three months to end King’s Lynn Town’s four-match losing run.

Margetts struck from the penalty spot with less than ten minutes remaining as Lynn ensured their sequence of National League North defeats came to an end.

It was no more than what Adam Lakeland’s side deserved for a solid show at The Walks. A scrappy first half lacked quality. The best chance fell the way of the visitors in the 43rd minute as a well-struck effort from David Morgan flashed past the far post of Patrick Boyes’ goal.

Finlay Barnes was introduced into the fray 17 minutes from time and it was his curling freekick on the edge of the box that almost broke the deadlock three minutes later.

Lynn were looking the more likely winners and had their chance on 80 minutes when Greg Taylor was pulled back in the area – and Margetts stepped up to finish.

After missing a late penalty at South Shields a fortnight ago, Margetts showed nerve to step up and fire the Linnets in front – and that’s the way it stayed as Lynn saw out the remaining minutes without too many alarms.

The dangerous Josh Hmami had a golden opportunity to finish the game off in time added on but slid the ball wide of the post.
