Southport cruised to a relatively comfortable win and a second clean sheet in a row.
The game started with Shields having the bulk of posession but lacking a cutting edge and whilst it was against the run of play based on the posession stats it was Southport who took the lead on 25 minutes with defender Tom Moore firing a fine shot home in a true striker fashion from the edge of the area.
The second half started in similar vain but the home side were able to comfortably deal with not having the ball as much but looked more threatening in attack and so it proved on 53 minutes when an excellent through ball by Marcus Carver found Danny lloyd one on one with the ‘keeper and he calmy rounded the stopper to slot home into an empty net.
Carver who put in an excellent hard working shift all afternoon got the goal his graft deserved in the 76th minute when despite being pulled and pushed in the area he coolly lobbed the ‘keeper to make it 3-0.
