Southport 0 Brackley 0

Southport register their first clean sheet of the campaign as they were held 0-0 against Brackley.

The goalless draw, which was reflective of how many chances were created in the game, earns The Port a point as they sit 17th after 10 games in the National League North.

The Sandgrounders had large spells of possession in the first half, but failed to threaten the Brackley goal. Marcus Carver registered an early effort after beating his man on the edge of the box, but his attempt was easily held by keeper Jonny Maxted. That shot in the ninth minute was the first and last attempt on target of the half for Southport.

Brackley edged close to Chris Renshaw’s goal as the half drew to a close, but he was equal to the effort of Scott Pollock after 37 minutes.

The second half was much the same as the first, limited attempts for either side. Carver mustered some half-chances goal bound but couldn’t control his efforts on target.

It was a display of defensive quality rather than attacking quality, and the resolute defending of centre halves Jordan Keane, Nathaniel Knight-Percivial and Tom Moore swept up any danger put on the back five.

A long-range effort from David Morgan almost had fans off their seats, but his powerful drive whistled just wide of the post.

Instead of a grandstand finish, the game petered out as both sides were seemingly happy to settle for a draw. Southport are back in action on Saturday 12th October as we host South Shields.
