FARSLEY CELTIC earned an important point in their bid for survival as the Celts played out a draw with Southport at The Citadel despite going down to ten men in the second half.In a match devoid of clear chances, Darren Stephenson came the closest to breaking the deadlock after forcing Tony McMillan down to his left to make a diving save, but that was about as close as either side came in this Good Friday clash in West Yorkshire.Southport struggled to break down the resolute Farsley defence, with Conor Branson putting in a great shift at centre back for the Celts as Clayton Donaldson’s side earned their first clean sheet since the start of March.Southport were given an advantage late in the second half when defender Tom Allan was sent off for a second bookable offence after bringing down Danny Lloyd on the edge of the area, forcing Farsley to defend deeper. The visitors’ best chance came in the resulting set piece when Lloyd stepped up to strike the ball wide of the post, failing to trouble Zan-Luk Leban in goal.Farsley held on to secure a valuable point which moves them three points clear of the drop zone, while Southport stay in 15th as both sides look to keep themselves out of the National League North relegation picture.
