Walton bites hand that once fed him
By Thomas Ritchie · Oct 16, 2022
IT WAS a game of two halves and a tale of taken chances at the Citadel, as Southport ran out winners.Farsley Celtic could well have been out of sight at the break but were left to rue their missed opportunities as the Sandgrounders were clinical in the second period. The Celts could and probably should have taken the lead inside ten minutes as Jimmy Spencer and Carlton Ubaezuonu were thwarted. Spencer latched on to a long ball over the top, with his attempted lob parried by Cameron Mason to Ubauezuonu who was denied at point-blank range by the keeper.Mason was called into action moments later to deny Spencer once again, before he was almost caught out by Luke Parkin as a long-range effort floated inches wide. After struggling in the first-half, it would take just four minutes after the interval for Southport to break the deadlock.Farsley failed to deal with a long throw from the right, and Adam Anson was in the right place to smash home inside the box.Ex-Celt Tyler Walton would be the man to double the visitors’ lead, turning home a well-worked corner routine. And the three points would be secured for the visitors as a mix-up at the back allowed Josh Hmami the simple task of rolling into an empty net.

REPORT: FARSLEY CELTIC 0-3 SOUTHPORT
BY THOMAS RITCHIEBy Josh Makin
Farsley Celtic squandered the chance to win back-to-back games for the first time this season after being beaten 3-0 by Southport at the Citadel. The Celt Army started the match brightly and were almost ahead after nine minutes when Jimmy Spencer’s pressing caused serious problems for Cameron Mason who could only claw the forward’s lob effort into the path of Carlton Ubaezuonu, whose follow-up effort was blocked on the line.Farsley continued to force the issue and Tom Allan came close to nodding the Celts in front when his powerful header from a corner was parried over the bar by Mason to keep the score level. One minute later, Dave Syers thought he had opened the scoring after converting from inside the 6-yard area after latching onto Frank Mulhern’s knockdown pass, only for the linesman to disallow the goal for an offside in the build-up.Farsley continued to knock on the Southport door with Luke Parkin next to go close after being played through by Spencer and blazing a shot wide from a tight angle a minute before the whistle blew for halftime. The second half would prove to be a different story with the roles reversed and the away side starting as the stronger side, and they almost took the lead through Jack Bainbridge whose long-range effort stung the palms of Max Dearnley just two minutes into the second half.Southport made use of the following corner and opened the scoring after Adam Anson’s acrobatic half-volley found the roof of the Farsley net after the home side failed to clear their lines. The visitors were always a threat from set-pieces, and midway through the second period Tyler Walton latched onto a Charlie Oliver corner, firing a shot goalward which deflected off Dave Syers and into the Farsley net to make it two.The deal was sealed with twelve minutes to play after a mix-up at the back between Tom Allan and Dearnley allowed Hmami the golden chance to finish into an empty net and put the result beyond doubt.Next week, the Celts travel to Gloucestershire to face Gloucester City away at the Tiger Turf Stadium with a 3pm kickoff.
Farsley Celtic 0 Southport 3

Southport returned from Yorkshire with all three points after a dominant second half performance against Farsley saw the visitors run out 3-0 winners.
It could have been very different if Farsley had made the most of a number of first half chances but failed to capitalise on them.
Southport survived a few scares in the first half but the defence held firm with Adam Anson back to his best at the heart of the back line and managed to see out the half to 0-0.
Cam Mason appeared to be struggling from the start and it came as no surprise when he was replaced after 18 minutes by Tony McMillan.
Southport had offered very little threat in the first period but it was to be a different story after the break.
Making the most of the wind and slope teh vistors scored three without reply.
Adam Anson got the half off to a great start firing home in the 48th minute. Jack Bainbridge had also stung the palms of the Farsley keeper a minute earlier as Southport came out firing.
More chances came and went and it was no surprise when Tyler Walton increased the lead on 68 minutes with a shot that went in off a Farsley defender.
A mix up at the back saw Josh Hmami capitalise and he rounded the keeper to increase th lead in the 77th minute.
Southport had five more good chances to increase the lead as they were breaking away at will but unable to find a finish.
The home side rarely threatened the Southport goal in the second half and it turned out to be a comfortable afternoon in the end,
