Oliver fires first goal of pre-season

Southport Visiter

21 Jul 2022

A 90th minute penalty gave Southport the first goal of pre-season and a 1-0 win against Lancaster City last Wednesday.

Charlie Oliver stepped up to slot the ball home after an off the ball foul on Niall Watson in the area.

The first half of the game was largely forgettable with both defences on top, the highlight was a fantastic save by Cam Mason to turn the ball over the top and keep the scores level at the break.

Southport made a number of half time changes and played with a lot more purpose with

Connor Woods looking particularly impressive wide right.

However it was the defence that took the plaudits looking very strong against a lively Lancaster forward line.

It’s all about getting the fitness back up to the optimum level in these games and manager, Liam Watson will be pleased to see the progress made so far.
