Zaiah had trials with both West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham but spent much of his career playing local football in the West Bromwich area. He once scored three goals in six minutes in a local Cup final and then broke a leg. He made his Southport début at Tranmere in the Liverpool Senior Cup scoring Southport’s consolation goal in a 5—1 defeat, making his League début three days later; but he did not like sleeping away from home and used to travel to Flint on match days. He worked for 30 years as a slinger for a steel firm and served in the Home Guard during the war, being in a reserved occupation.
