A shrewd and thoughtful player, he played on both sides of the Irish border and created a favourable impression with the all-conquering Belfast Celtic team. He got into their 1927—28 side just before the end of the season and playing at centre-forward scored a hat-trick in a 4—1 defeat of Ards. At Haig Avenue, he played chiefly at inside-right but also occasionally at right-half. The Southport Journal praised him for “taking up position very astutely” and also knowing “how to pass a ball to advantage.” On the debit side, he was criticised for being a trifle slow. It is believed he returned to Ireland at the end of 1933—34; he remains one of a dozen players that the authors have failed to trace, although it is believed that he was born in Londonderry around 1907.
