He sprang into prominence with Cardiff City after scoring 48 times for Treharris in one season in the Welsh League. He was the ‘Bluebirds’ top scorer in his first season, scoring not only a late equaliser in the Fourth Round F.A. Cup-tie with Charlton Athletic but also both goals in the replay. He came to Southport with an impressive 42 goals in 109 League games but failed to find the net in any of his 13 League appearances. His best performance at Haig Avenue was his two goals against Everton in the Lancashire Senior Cup-tie on 5 January 1957. His career finished at Burton Albion when he broke his leg. Employed by Bass Brewery in Burton, he worked as a drayman until forced to give up by ill health. His home life disintegrated and beset by problems of his own making he died in Burton aged 61.
