Saturday’s matchday programme will include an original 1978 programme! Originally issued to celebrate 50 years of League Football, the match sadly became Southport’s last home football league game. A couple of hundred copies were found to still be in original editor and Club Statistician Geoff Wilde’s possession when he sadly died last year. Re-issuing a43-year-old programme is believed to be a football first. Programmes will only cost £1 each and will be available from the club shop and turnstiles before the game
If anyone would like a copy leaving in the club shop for collection on the day, please email John on woodwoody8@aol.com and I will leave in the Shop with Christine for collection. Just to re-iterate, these are the original surplus programmes from 1978, and not re-prints. Rather than have them languish in someone’s attic for years, we are hopefully making them available at a bargain price for a new generation of collectors.

Will they differ in any way so you can tell an original from a reprint?
Only in the past, these original last game programmes have been selling for between £3/5.
I’m after Swansea home and Runcorn FA Cup , if anyone is in a position to help.
Hi Mark. These are guaranteed originals. When the Club Historian Geoff Wilde, who compiled the original programme, died last year, we found some un-opened boxes in his house! Due to the very low run-on print cost, it would appear he way over ordered (possibly anticipating a far bigger gate than the 1400 who attended). Rather than leave them sitting around for potentially years, we decided to make them available to hopefully a new generation of collectors at a very low price, and in so doing raise a few £s for the club. Sorry, I only have the one copy of the Runcorn and Swansea games, but will ask the other SFC collectors I know if they have duplicates. Kind Regards, John
Many thanks for the swift reply John. That’s great news, and hopefully the club will make extra income from this.
I personally have 3 copies from the Huddersfield game somewhere.
Would it be possible for you to photocopy the Runcorn away issue for me. Apparently it was a double sided A4 Sheet? Is that right?
I’m also after Southport v Workington 1966/67 LC but never seen a copy.
Many thanks for your help and wishing you all the best for Saturday’s game
Mark
Hi Mark
The Runcorn is a 4 sided effort on a rather strange yellow/green paper. The Workington is a standard issue for that season with Football League Review.
I can either leave the Runcorn copy in the shop on Saturday, or if you email your address I’ll copy on Wednesday and post to you.
Kind Regards, John
Ps I’ll also ask if anyone has a duplicate of the Workington
