For the first and only time in the club’s history, due to previous cup exploits, Southport were exempt until the third round of the FA Cup.
This, along with the demise of Wigan Borough, however had meant that the Sandgrounders had been without competitive football for three Saturdays in a row leading up to the game.
Drawing at Barnsley in the initial encounter the replay took place on this date in 1932.
