SOUTHPORT V BARROW

Liverpool Echo

26/11/1960

Southport and Barrow have to fight their F.A. Cup-tie over again at Barrow next Thursday, but Southport can consider themselves unlucky not to have made sure at the first attempt.

In the closing minutes they hammered the Barrow goal in a bid for a winning shot after Gordon had equalised for Barrow.

Southport’s forwards hit out at every opportunity during these closing minutes, but Hindle was not to be beaten.

Southport territorially had held the advantage almost throughout, but the Barrow defence showed again that it takes a good forward line to beat it.

Southport took the lead in 29 mins. with a goal by DAINTY. For long enough afterwards it seemed that this goal would suffice. Barrow came along in one of their few raids and just as they did last week got that snap goal which made all the difference.
