Liam Watson fulfilled his promise to field a strong team for this Liverpool Senior Cup Quarter Final tie and found himself rewarded within thirty seconds of kick off as the first froray up-field fell to youngster John Hedges, who did well to control the ball inside the box, blasting the ball home from close range.
However, within ten minutes, the home side were back in the game as Shaun Tuck worked space for himself down the left channel, blasting the ball beyond Drench.
Hedges again showed great potential as he beat his defender, but this time he was unlucky to see his shot skim narrowly wide.
The lead was restored on 23 minutes as Shaun Whalley picked up the ball on the half way line, and unchallenged surged forward into the box, blasting the ball beyond the bemused Sean Lake who had no chance as the ball flew beyond him into the net.
Robbie Booth added to the score-line with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half as his made the most of the acres of space he had in the middle, volleying the ball into the top left corner from just outside the area. Booth was rewarded with his determination minutes later as he got the ball past Wayne McDermott on the right side of the box, blasting the ball in at the near post, again stranding Lake.
With fifteen minutes to go, Shaun Gray added to the tally as his free-kick from the edge of the area flew through the wall into the top corner of the net.
