Durham City 1 v 1 Southport

It took Southport a while to adjust to the plastic pitch, with the home side having the best chances to open the scoring in the first half. Steve Richardson was a constant handful to the Port defence, creating a few good chances, however it was Adam Johnston who first called McMillan into action as his shot on the turn forced the keeper to dive low to his right, pushing the ball away, and with five minutes before the break, a good break from Johnston found Stephen Harrison, whose shot was pushed out to Calvin Smith, who fired the ball over the empty goal.

Southport had a good early chance to take the lead early in the second half when it appeared that Craig Turn handled the ball outside his area, but the referee deemed it a foul, with Mark Duffy’s free-kick being well gathered by Turn. But moment later Port took the lead as Ashley Winn received the ball in the area, blasting the ball well beyond Turn into the net.

Durham pulled level with ten minutes to go as as a Tommy English corner was nodded in at the near post by Adam Johnston, totally fooling the Port defence.
