Carver slices Linnetts in the first half

KING’S LYNN TOWN 1 SOUTHPORT 4

By Greg Plummer · Sept 10, 2023

KING’S LYNN TOWN suffered their heaviest home league loss for 18 months.Lynn barely let the visitors have a kick in the opening ten minutes – but were then blown away by four goals in a 21 minutes as their back line wilted.Striker Marcus Carver helped himself to a first-half hat-trick with the home defence at sixes and sevens before Jordan Ponticelli replied for the hosts. The defeat leaves Lynn languishing in the bottom four and a late red card for defender Emmanuel Oke leaves manager Mark Hughes with selection woes heading into the FA Cup tie against Aveley.Oke sold lsmael Fatadjo short for the first. The ball ended up in Lynn’s half, but Josh Coulson’s attempted pass back was even shorter, and Carver had time to draw out keeper Paul Jones and slide the ball into the far corner.Four minutes later it got even more difficult when Doyle fired home an unstoppable free-kick from 20-plus yards.Carver slid home a third after Lynn’s defence went missing again and completed his hat-trick when he headed into an empty net after Niall Watson mugged Kyle Callan-McFadden.Lynn pulled a goal back two minutes after the restart, Ponticelli firing the ball in from close range, but it was to no avail.
