Southport looked to continue their momentum from their victories during the week, entertaining Farsley Celtic for the first time at Haig Avenue.

It was the Sandgrounders who had the better early chances with Ciaran Kilheeney playing the ball deep on the right into Steve Daly who tried his luck from a tight angle towards the near post, only for Curtis Aspden to collect the ball. Kevin Leadbetter had a chances palmed over by Aspden, whilst the best chance came from an Ashley Winn precise ball over to Kilheeney, who composed himself before firing goal-ward, only to be thwarted by Mark Jackson who took the ball away from the goal line.

Damien Reeves had a good headed chance go wide of the target on the half hour mark as Celtic looked to breach the Port defence.

Farsley did well in flattening the game out, making Southport really have to work hard for any chances, looking to break as the pressure eased. Kevin Leadbetter had two chances, with the first shot from the edge of the area going wide, and a free-kick on the right wing swerving by the top corner of the cross bar.

Southport finally broke the deadlock with just under ten minutes remaining as the ball got to Robbie Booth on the edge of the box, where he blasted through a crowd of players, and despite Dominic Krief’s best efforts, all he could do was escort the ball further over the line.
