Southport FC is pleased to confirm that Dean Winnard has signed a new contract for the 2020/21 season.

The new deal takes Dean into his third season with the Port, having joined in the summer of 2018 from Morecambe and become a key member of Liam Watson’s squad.

The 30-year-old defender has started 59 games in total for the Port and his experience has been a major asset for the team.

Starting his career with Blackburn Rovers before spending seven years at Accrington Stanley prior to his move to Morecambe, Dean has almost 300 appearances in the EFL to his name.

Watson said: “It’s been clear to see how important a player Dean has been over the past few seasons, especially for a team that is young in age. Dean will continue to help the younger players develop and is someone all the lads respect.

“I’m really pleased that Dean has agreed an extension as we look to put the finishing touches to the squad. We’ve got a strong nucleus with the lads who have renewed over the last year and that has been added to by those who have joined already this summer.”
