He came to Southport with an impressive record of 22 goals in 39 League matches for Bradford – his best return being 10 goals in 10 games in 1923-24. He showed all the signs of going onto an outstanding career before a long spell out of the game intervened following a broken shin bone sustained against Rochdale on the 24th March 1923.

On being released by Bradford he had a short spell with Selby Town and then continued this high scoring ratio at Haig Avenue playing in all the matches of the FA Cup run which ended in the fourth round at Liverpool.

An all-round sportsman he was a good fast bowler and boxed in the Army until invalided out when he lost the middle finger is right hand at the Dardanelles.

He was employed in a Bradford wool warehouse all his working life.
