After representing Anglesey and North Wales Schoolboys, this unassuming, gangling striker had trials with Burnley, Arsenal, and Bristol City. He sprung into prominence as Morecambe’s substitute (last 25 minutes) in the F.A. Trophy final at Wembley in 1974 when still only 18. He created a favourable impression following his transfer to Southport, scoring 9 goals in 1975-76 to finish as leading scorer, but he failed to reproduce this form in the following campaign. He initially came to Haig Avenue on a month’s loan when he was a trainee draughtsman employed at Heysham Power. He later returned to Morecambe for a third spell rendering excellent service, occasionally filling in their defence when required. He has continued coaching at Barrow, playing once or twice as substitute in 1993-94, and was assistant manager at Netherfield in 1994-95.
