Southport’s chase for cup glory is over after they exited the Liverpool Senior Cup thanks to three extra-time goals.
Liverpool fielded a mix of youngsters and reserve-team players, but Port held their own, winning three corners in the first 20 minutes. Matty McGinn provided the toughest challenge to the Liverpool side with his long throws causing problems.
Liverpool’s extra-time goals – with Port down to 10 men, as Robbie Booth pulled a hamstring and all the substitutes had been used – came from Ryan Crowther, Daniel Pacheco and Jay Spearing.
