Southport v Bootle Wanderers – The return match between these clubs resulted in a victory for Southport by four goals to two thus wiping out the previous defeat. A very strong wind interfered with play and strong kicking was the feature of the game. Southport with the wind at their back, completely penned the visiters, and scored three goals during the first half; in fact, Platt did not play the ball at all during this time. On changing ends the game was more evenly contested, good runs being made by Richardson and Stone, from one of which Smith notched the fourth point. The Wanderers also scoring twice. The goals for Southport were kicked by Briggs, Stone, and Smith, the first going through off the Wanderer’s back. The goal keeping on both sides was excellent and Richardson, Stone, Rylands and Ramsbotha,m were the most conspicuous for their good play, while John Simm being best for the visiters. Teams:- Southport, W.Platt, goal; W.Kay, H.Baxter, R.L.Rylance, and E.Ramsbotham, backs; J.B.Richardson, J.H.Stone, A.Briggs, H.A.Smith, J.Melross and T.B.Burnett (captain), forwards.
