Southport v Liverpool Excelsior (Association) – These clubs met on Saturday on the ground of the former, and after a very pleasant game the result was a decisive victory for the Sandgrounders. The visitors kicked off against a strong wind, the ball however being soon returned, and for the rest of the first half the Southportonions kept up a constant attack and scored three goals, Rylance being the first to draw blood, Melross doing the needful in the second case, and from a good screw by Coleman burnett dashed up and was fortunate in scoring the third goal. On changing sides, and with a strong wind against them, it was thought that the home team would have a difficult task, but their passing was very good, and together with a strong defence of their backs, they were enabled to add four more goals to the score, Coleman being responsible for two and Melross and Burnett each one – Southport team: J.H.Hollis,goal; backs, E.Ramsbotham, R.C.Rylance, J.B.Richardson and J.Bulluck; forwards, A.Bimpson, J.Melross, T.Coleman,J.Sykes, H.A.Smith, and T.B.Burnett (captain).
