At its Board Meeting on Friday March 12th, The National League decided to use its best endeavours to keep its season going in the face of unprecedented adversity.
However, with the coronavirus (COVID-19) reaching global pandemic levels and following a series of postponements, including Southport’s scheduled home fixture v Gateshead, in line with The Football Association and the Professional Game, at a Board Meeting on 16th March, The National League has decided that its competition would be suspended until at least 3rd April 2020.
National League Clubs were asked to support an ordinary resolution on 9 April to end the Playing Season for all fixtures scheduled up to and including 25 April 2020.
On 17th June, following a vote by all member Clubs, the Vanarama National League announced that all three National League divisions would be concluded with final league tables compiled on an “Unweighted Points Per Game” basis.
The outcome was that King’s Lynn Town were crowned champions of Vanarama National League North despite sitting second in the table to York City at the time of League suspension..
“Unweighted Points Per Game” is defined as:
The method for calculating the final points total of each Club in the Division concerned, calculated in accordance with the following formula, rounding the final points total up to three decimal places:

Where “PT” means a Club’s points total in the 2019/20 Season at the point when the Competition was suspended on 16 March 2020.
Where “CM” means the number of Competition Matches a Club has played in the 2019/20 Season at the point the Competition was suspended on 16 March 2020.
Where “LMS” means the number of Competition Matches originally scheduled to be played by each Club in the 2019/20 Season, being (a) 46 for National League Clubs; and (b) 42 for National League North and National League South Clubs.
Worked Example:
Club A is in National League North and has played 32 Competition Matches and has a points total of 43 points. Applying the formula, Club A’s final points tally will be:
43* 42 = 56.438
