The unbeaten run for Southport was tonight extended to six (including 4 victories) as Dominic Morley returned from injury to bolster the Southport midfield. With that exception (replacing the concussed Phil Bolland) Manager Paul Futcher stuck with the team that drew 1-1 at home just two days ago but Southport’s will to win was too strong and Southport at the moment are unstoppable – long may it continue.
In the second half Ian Arnold scored his eigth of the season from the penalty spot and Lee Ellison showed just how much more settled he is becoming grabbing another vital goal. His excellent performance on Saturday and his goal tonight will do him the world of good and maybe at last he is getting back to the form we all know he capable of. Southport’s next opponents in the FA cup are in fact his previous club Darlington. A tough test it may be but Ellison may just hold the key to providing yet another giant killing for the cup-heroes of Southport.
Ellison will know the Darlington squad and Darlington know what he is capable of. With Arnold on song and Woods adjusting well to his midfield role can ‘Port once again make it to the third round – only time will tell.
